There is scarcely a question one could ask without finding the answer in this delightful
book that follows the joy and training of an 8-week-old puppy through its first year of
schooling. From the day a puppy leaves its place of birth to adjust to life with its new
family, this author follows its development and training with professional skill and
colorful illustrations emphasizing the importance of human body and hand gestures as
well as positive voice control. Problems and solutions are addressed in detail with
understanding, forgiveness, and patience.
The author, Kathy Goodman, has had years of experience to share individually and as
a class instructor. Her love, insight, and understanding of dogs highlights every page.
The message applies to all breeds, and I recommend the book highly as a reliable training
tool. It should go with each puppy into its new home as well as with older dogs taken
into family homes from rescue organizations or schools for special training such as
guide dogs for the blind, wheel chair victims, rescue work and tracking, scent
discrimination or therapy work in nursing homes, or most important, just a comfortable
family companion with both children and adults.
